How to Keep your Cats in your Yard!

Do you live near a busy road, or have a psychotic serial killer next door?
Then you might like to make a cat proof fence!

I can not tell you how wonderful it is to let our kids enjoy the yard, and come home from work knowing
that Jim Durfey hasn't bashed in the skull of another one of our cats.

We ordered the Cat Fence - In system, and it really works!
They don't have email, but you can call them at 1-888-738-9099.

You could also try using regular deer netting and making your own brackets, you just have to make sure there is no gap at all between the fence and the netting - and that the brackets are long enough that the kitties can't jump over! However, I can tell you from experience that the netting that comes from Cat Fence-In is WAY better than what you will find at Home Depot....

You can see that the brackets and netting hardly show at all.
In fact, it was difficult to get photos where you could see them:

I finally made good use of my bowling ball collection and used them as fence post decorations!
If you look closely, you will see the brackets and netting that are along the entire perimeter of our yard now:

In this photo the sun is hitting the netting, so you can see it better.
We wanted a trellis above our front gate, so we used an old screen door for our front gate:

It works really well!
Now, once we had the Fence-In system installed, there was still some tweaking to do,
because our Darling Mike

Mike is an Escape Artist!
The first thing he did was discover that he could climb up the diagonal braces, and squeeze himself through the
2.5 inch gaps in the wire fencing.

We watched him do this one night. It was so disgusting! Kind of like watching an Anaconda eat a deer.
Can you believe a 14 pound cat squished himself through this fence??

So, I had to put MORE netting along all of the diagonal boards!

I just used twisty-ties to attach the netting to the fence. You know, twisties like you get on a loaf of bread!
Anyway, now you can see that a fence CAN keep your cat in your yard and out of your veggie garden.
(See, our veggie garden is on the hill:)

Here is one more photo where we built a wooden fence to connect to the garage.
You can see that I also had to add the netting along the roof of the garage, because Mike could get on the roof!

One last photo, Mike and Mercury helping me when I painted the front gate:

Thanks again to the nice folks at Cat Fence - In for helping us keep our family safe!
