"Hi there, I just want to thank you and everyone who put together the seminar- for putting it together. I came back learning a lot, understanding a lot.
I’ve emailed a synopsis of what I learned - it’s sort of a gentle email to wake people up.
I’ll see what kind of impact I have.
But I want to thank you because all of your efforts, they certainly done me very good.
And I’ll try to gently open the minds of anyone that is willing to listen.
And I’m going to try to get involved with your to your monthly vegan potluck meals, it’s a little bit far for me to drive because of income and everything.
But God bless you and everyone who participated. You are all good souls.
Right now it’s a streamlet, but one of these days it’s gonna be a mighty river of change. Thank you very much."
Field Roast Grain Meat Company sent 20 pounds of Smoked Tomato Deli Slices and 20 pounds of Smoked Mushroom Deli Slices!
Four volunteers made grilled Wayfare Cheese, and cold sandwiches with Field Roast and Tofurky deli slices, with Veganaise, lettuce and tomato.
The grilled cheese was super fast and easy to make with a little panini maker - you don’t even need to use Earth Balance margarine - just spread some Wayfare Chedder Cheese on the bread, and place the sandwich in the panini machine for a couple of minutes. The bread gets crispy and the middle gets gooey - everyone LOVED those sandwiches!
One woman sampled all three sandwiches and raved:
“There's nothing better than a grilled cheese for comfort food!
I loved ALL the sandwiches - the Field Roast and Tofurky were
SO DELICIOUS and the tomato and lettuce made it perfect!
And Vegenaise is GOOD! Who knew?!"
We baked over 1400 mini-cupcakes for this event!
The six flavors served were:
Howard Lime-N-Coconut
Eco Elvis Banana & Peanut Butter with Green Sprinkles
Chocolate
Lemon
Gluten Free
"Time Travel" Cupcakes (simple vanilla cupcakes decorated with Koolaid and Fruit Loops - One bite and you're back in third grade!!)
All day long people said these were the best cupcakes they had ever tasted, and asked if we were opening a bakery. All day long we explained that it was easy to bake without animal products, using non-dairy milk, organic canola oil, and one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar along with the usual baking ingredients. Thank goodness we had a copy of “Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World” on the table for people to flip through!
Favorite comment of the day: from a board member of the Emerson during their Fund Raiser in the adjoining Ballroom, which featured food from 10 local restaurants. He said “EVERYONE in the ballroom is talking about the food YOU GUYS are serving in the lobby!”
Another wonderful comment was from a wedding cake decorator.
He sampled 4 different cupcakes - seriously TASTING them.
He
raved about the texture and flavor. When he said I should open a bakery, I handed him the cookbook and said
“Thank you! I read the directions myself!” ha ha
The left-over cupcakes were given away at the
Bozeman Public Library, the next day.
Perhaps the most powerful booth in the lobby, this table featured three viewing stations for people to watch a short clip of Mercy for Animals "Farm to Fridge" documentary, which reveals to consumers the cruel plight endured by animals in factory farms, hatcheries, and slaughterhouses. Click Here to see the 10 minute film.
People who watched a short clip of this film were given one dollar and vegetarian starter kits from Mercy for Animals and Vegan Outreach.
The table was covered with free literature, CDs, and DVDs.
Thanks to Vegan Outreach, Mercy for Animals, the Food Empowerment Project, FARM, Our Hen House, and PETA, for their leaflets, postcards, and educational flyers about meat and the environment.
Thanks also to Larabar , who donated free samples of their cherry pie and carrot cake energy bars!
Many people were moved by this 5 minute film, and wanted more information.
The “Where to Buy It” table -
featured empty packages of many transition foods such as Tofutti, Daiya, Vegenaise, Gardein, etc, (and listed all the local stores that carried those items). These tables also displayed popular vegan cookbooks and sign-up sheets for the vegan potlucks across the state.
This table came in handy when people who watched the video wanted to know “so what do I eat now?”
These delicious products help people to transition towards a plant-based diet.
We've always love the CD “Burning Globe” by Eco Elvis
(aka Matt Riggs of Kansas City, MO)
but we did not realize what a fabulous educator he is!!
Several classes of school children attended his free matinee performance, and the kids absolutely LOVED the show.
Eco Elvis sang about recycling, composting, and yes,
he even sang Viva Las Vegans!
Between films in the auditorium, he handed out
Eco Elvis Cupcakes in the lobby.
We look forward to sharing his show on YouTube later this month,
and we highly recommend Matt as an entertainer.
Not only was he an excellent emcee, he was also kind and incredibly helpful. He’s a big strong guy, and on Thursday night after his flight into Bozeman he helped us unload a dozen tables in the middle of a blizzard - (we didn't get home until midnight!) He even set up the tables for us in the lobby! On Friday night he helped us tear down all the displays, load the cars, and clean the lobby. What a sweetie.
Thank you Elvis! Thankyouverymuch.
School kids arrive for the show!
Everyone enjoyed snacks after the show!
Dr. Lisa Kemmerer's presentation "Eating Earth" was powerful and informative.
We were delighted to have Howard Lyman as our Keynote Speaker.
All day he visited with folks in the lobby, answered questions, and signed books.
His speech was great, as always, and we will share it soon on You Tube.
Here Howard is signing a copy of Veg News. The cover story is 99 Things You MUST Do - #4 on that list was to hear Howard Lyman speak, in person. Mission Accomplished!
The next day, April 23rd, the Bozeman Area Vegetarian Society held their monthly vegan potluck at the Bozeman Public Library.
It was a wonderful opportunity for the volunteers to visit and relax with each other - and also a great place to give away the left-over cupcakes to the library patrons!
